Accessibility
Last updated 2 June 2026.
Fragments is built to be read comfortably by as many people as possible. Reading is the whole point, so legibility and navigability come first.
What we do
- Semantic HTML with proper headings and landmarks, and a “skip to content” link.
- Full keyboard navigation, with visible focus outlines.
- A light and a dark theme, with colour contrast chosen for readability.
- Text that scales with your browser settings, and generous reading measure and spacing.
- Respect for the “reduce motion” system setting — animations are minimised.
- Alt text on images, and labelled, operable controls on the interactive figures.
Known limits
The data essays include rich interactive figures; while they’re keyboard-operable and their key findings are also stated in the surrounding text, some fine visual detail is inherently visual. We’re always working to improve this.
